To create a new merchant, users must now obtain the personal information – full name, date of birth, social; security number – about the beneficial owner of a company, as well anybody who holds at least a 25% stake in it, this information now being required by the processing bank.

This offers merchants greater control over their payment processing, including, inter alia, the ability to customise their payment methods and parameters. They are also able to integrate, directly on their checkout page, the Splash PayFields – credit card payment fields – in a PCI compliant manner and environment.
1099 Forms are used in the US to report income to the IRS. Typical practice for payment card processors is to deliver one 1099 to the owner of a marketplace, and leave them with the responsibility of distributing to all their sub-merchants. By contrast, with Splash, 1099 forms are sent directly to sub-merchants, leaving the primary merchant or online retailer free to focus on growing their business.
Splash processes payments for all major credit cards – Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and more – offering low rates with a standard transaction fee of 2.9% plus US $0.30.
Splash Payments offers tokenization which is a means of securing payment information, and which increases convenience, without at the same time, increasing the risk to either the merchant or their customers.
With tokenization, a process is adopted whereby sensitive data is protected by replacing it with a number, known as a “token” which is generated by an algorithm.
In systems like Splash Payments, tokenization is used to help prevent credit card fraud by replacing the customer’s primary account number (PAN) with a series of randomly generated numbers (these are collectively known as “the token”. In this way, tokens can be passed online and across the various wireless networks required to process the payment, without any sensitive financial or personal data being revealed. A secure token vault holds the actual bank account number safely.
The ultimate objective of tokenization is to prevent fraudsters duplicating bank information from one card to another. Whilst chip cards protects against transaction fraud at physical stores, the main purpose of tokenization is to safeguard against digital or online breaches and abuses.
With Splash Payments, tokenization enables users to store credit card information in mobile wallets, e-commerce solutions and POS (Point of Sale) terminals, allowing cards to be recharged without the original card information being exposed.
Vendors like Splash Payments use tokenization in a variety of ways; on e-commerce sites that offer customers “one-click” checkouts; when businesses keep customer card details on file for subscription billing and recurrent payments; and with NFC (Near Field Communication) wallets, such as Android Pay and Apple Pay.
Android Pay Tokenization: After a picture of a credit card is taken and loaded into your Android device, Google sends the details to the card’s issuing bank or payment network, replacing the credit card details with the token – a series of numbers which are randomly generated. That random number is transmitted back to Google, which programs it into the Android phone. As a result, the number which is stored on the phone cannot be translated or extracted into anything that would be meaningful for an online fraudster.
Apple Pay Tokenization: With Apple Pay, tokenization works in a similar fashion. When the credit card information is uploaded into the app, Apple creates a stand-in “token” that represents the customer account number. This makes it virtually impossible for a hacker to access the actual underlying credit card details.
App Tokenization: For those who want to use an app on their phone to buy something online, if the phone has a token none of these apps will have access to their credit card details. In addition, it can also be easier to check out by using a tokenized account, as many apps directly linked to customers’ stored shipping information.
E-Commerce: The process can also be used to protect online shopping transactions and activities. If the online retailer has tokenized the card numbers that it retains on file, then customer information is safe, even in the event that their systems get hacked. In fact, the retailer or merchant many never actually see or store credit card numbers, which means that a fraudster committing a data breach will just discover a bunch of randomly generated tokens. Additionally, new tokens can be generated for each online retailer, which means that somebody who shops frequently online may have a different code with every merchant they have visited. That means that in the event of one retailer having a security breach, all tokens related and issued to that merchant’s website can be disabled, without the account holder having to go to all the bother of getting a new replacement credit card.
PayFrame is an embedded payment form which enables users to securely collect information from customers and process their payments without having to store sensitive data on local servers. It is the simplest and safest way to process payments.
Through the program’s API, they can also integrate their own customised form, allowing them to collect specific customer information which is non-sensitive, whilst passing the customer’s payment information directly to the Splash Payments’ servers. The API can also be used to tokenise customers’ payment information. This has the benefit of enabling merchants to use a token ID to process payments, obviating the need for customer payment information to be re-entered twice.
Splash provides merchants with the ability to set specific fraud guidelines, which, in normal circumstances, would be at the discretion of the payment processor. E-commerce merchants can set their own guidelines via the Splash portal, which gives them enhanced control over the payments on their online storefront. They have the ability to define the payment methods of their choice, and accept payments from different countries.
Splash Payments PayFields integrate seamlessly onto virtually any online storefront. Once a customer navigates through to the check-out page , they will select the Splash option, which can be customised and white-labelled so that it appears part of the storefront itself. This means that customers do not have to leave the storefront environment, whilst the merchant can still benefit from what Splash offers in terms of security and PCI compliance.
Splash Payments enables merchants to set-up recurring billing, collecting payment information from customers one time and then automating all future payments. Using recurrent payment schedules, they are able to set-up schedules that make it easier for customers to pay on time. This also, from the merchant perspective, helps boost cash flow and achieve predictable revenue streams.

With Splash, for the convenience of merchants, all payment information is sent directly to their servers. Those retailers who want to save customer payment information can create a token that can be used for online payments.
The solution also offers integration through extensions with popular shopping cart platforms like Magento, Wix, Shopify and 3D Cart. This enables merchants to optimise the benefits of Splash on their platform, and enable payments to be taken in a secure online fashion.

Training is available through the onboarding process and is also available live online, with full documentation support.
Additional self-service support is mainly aimed at the developer community. There is an API documentation centre, with detailed coding instructions for, inter alia, creating a payment, generating a token, recurring transactions and PayFields.
